CRSwNP
Recurrent polyps and loss of smell deserve specialized evaluation.
Chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps (CRSwNP) is a Type 2 inflammatory disease. Surgery alone is rarely the full answer — many patients benefit from advanced medical therapy.
01
Could you have CRSwNP?
Common features include:
- Persistent nasal obstruction or congestion
- Reduced or lost sense of smell (hyposmia/anosmia)
- Facial pressure or recurrent sinus infections
- Previous sinus surgeries with polyp regrowth
- Coexisting asthma or aspirin sensitivity
02
Beyond surgery
While surgery has its role, polyps frequently return when underlying Type 2 inflammation is not addressed. Modern care combines targeted medical therapy with judicious surgical decisions.
03
Specialized evaluation includes
- Symptom review (SNOT-22, smell tests)
- Imaging interpretation when available
- Biomarker review (eosinophils, IgE)
- Orientation on biologic therapy candidacy
Related Type 2 Conditions
CRSwNP is part of a broader type 2 inflammatory pattern.
Up to half of patients with nasal polyps have coexisting asthma, and many share systemic eosinophilic features. A unified evaluation often clarifies long-term control.
